Bengal Red Lentils with Spices
Ingredients
1 cup Masoor dal
1 Onion-chopped
1 cup Tomato puree
3 pods Garlic-crushed
3 slited Green chillies
½ tsp Mustard seeds
¼ tsp Urad dal
½ tsp Cumin powder
½ tsp Turmeric powder
¼ tsp Red chilly powder
2 tsp Ginger paste
3 tsp Lemon juice
1 tbsp Mustard oil
1 sprig Curry leaves
A pinch asafoetida
1 tsp Cilantro-finely chopped
Salt to taste
Method
1.Wash, soak the dal with 2 cup of water overnight and drain.
2.Pressure cook the dal with 2 cup of water, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt up to 2 whistles until the dal is cooked well.
3.Heat oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and allow spluttering.
4.Add the onion, ginger paste, chilly powder, cumin powder and fry for 2-3 minutes.
5.Add the tomato and cook for 4-5 minutes until oil separates.
6.Add the fried ingredients to the cooked dal along with lime juice and stir well.
7.Garnish with the coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
